Kelly had recently been to a neighborhood gathering at another one of our clients’ houses. She really liked what she saw and asked the host of the party for our information.
We met and discussed her desire to expand her outdoor living space and how her existing yard had drainage issues and was really unusable in its current state.
We worked through a couple of different design ideas and settled on one that raised up her existing grade to allow for an expansive patio, fire pit, and pergola coming off their existing deck. We removed a small staircase and upgraded their wood railing. For the railing, we used a Timbertech Impressions Express rail with a modern handrail. This is a zero-maintenance aluminum rail. We redesigned the deck to allow for more open space, flow, and better connectivity to their new patio.
The patio is built with Techo-Bloc Blu Grande pavers in the Cafe Crema color with HD2 finish.
The low-voltage lighting system is fully controllable by FX Luminaire. We use the Luxor Transformer and added ledge lights under the caps of the wall, FX deck step lights, and bistro lights. All of which are fully controllable with dimming and zoning from their phone app.
We regraded the entire yard, expanded the lawn area for play space, relocated the play-set, and added a sand pit with Natural Tennessee boulder climbing walls.
FEATURED: The gas fire pit is the Crossfire burner by Warming Trends, pumping out 240,000 BTUs.
GAINING SPACE
We really needed to focus on expanding the yard, which included the removal of several trees and expanding the lawn area.
The existing grade required a low retaining wall, which we designed at seat-wall height for flexibility and overflow seating when entertaining. For the wall and fire pit, we used Mini-Creta Architectural wall block by Techo-Bloc in Chestnut Brown with Natural Indiana Limestone caps.
